PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In many industrial processing activities such as oil refining, the synthesis of ammonia, and natural gas purification, CO2 and H2S (acid gases) are impurities. The acid gases must be reduced to prevent corrosion to materials and harmfulness to both the environment and human beings. The amine absorption technology is well-established in packed columns with numerous industrial installations and ready for large scale use. A liquid distributor at the top and a bottom side for the gas inlet are used as a gas-liquid contacting device in the columns. The liquid distributor affects much the mass transfer and chemical reactions in amine absorber with structured-packing. The CFD simulations have been often used to estimate process performance and modify the design. Therefore, the objectives of this project are:

To develop a three-dimensional (3D) CFD model for a liquid re-distributor in an amine absorber packed with structured-packing.

To observe the effect of liquid distributor on mass transfer and chemical reactions.
