Crude oil is generally produced with water in the form of emulsions or dispersions of water droplets in oil. It is necessary to remove water from the oil for economic and operational reasons. Three-phase separator, which is one of the gravitational settling methods, is one of the first stage of production processes for the separation of gas, oil, and water in the petroleum industry. The gravity settling approach requires a large equipment size to achieve effective separation, which is not practicable and economical, and it is especially not convenient for offshore conditions.
