PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A cyclone separator is an equipment for removing particulate solids from a fluid (gas or liquid) system. Cyclone separators are usually use for removing particle sizes of 10 μm and larger. A high efficiency separator can remove the particles down to 5 μm. Depend on the design of cyclone, the removal efficiency can drop significantly beyond a certain particle size. Therefore, there is a need for a CFD model to predict the separation efficiency and design an optimum cyclone. The objectives of this project are:

To develop a gas-solid CFD model for cyclone separation in a propylene plant

To identify the hydrodynamics in terms of pressure drop and velocity inside the cyclone

To predict the separation efficiency of solid particles
