PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Fossil fuels are still one of the primary sources of energy in the future. Their use has led to an emission of massive amounts of CO2 causing the climate change. Nowadays, power-to-gas processes are considered as a possible solution for integrating renewable resources. The methanation of CO2, which is also called the Sabatier process, provide a more convenient and safer way to convert H2 to CH4. However, this process has high kinetic barriers because of highly exothermic reaction. Therefore, there is a need for a CFD model to estimate the hydrodynamics and reaction, modify the design and improve the operation of process equipment. The objectives of this project are:

To develop a CFD model for CO2 methanation with heterogeneous reactions in bubbling fluidized-bed reactor with an internal heat exchanger.

To observe the effect of internal heat exchanger on hydrodynamics and chemical reactions.

To investigate the profiles of hydrodynamics and chemical reactions.
