Amine based absorption is often adopted for CO2 capture in large-scale power plants. Packed columns with packing materials are employed to promote direct contact between liquid and gas phases in the absorption process. Optimal operation of the packed columns requires homogeneous distribution of liquid films and gas flow. Gas distributor at the bottom is used as a gas-liquid contacting device in the columns. The selection of a gas distributor requires characterization and quantification of the quality of the gas flow distribution. The CFD simulations have been often used to estimate process performance, creating appropriate performance indexes obtained from primary CFD results. Therefore, the objectives of this project are:
